Lurking

Hello folks. I’m still around. Been in serious lurker mode for the past couple of weeks. Couldn’t do a whole lot else that was very exciting.

Here’s where things stand – I’m back to running. Sort of. First off, if I try to run every day right now, I end up paying for it by the end of the week. So – I’m running every other day. Second, since I have been a little (okay – a whole lot) less than disciplined with my diet, the extra poundage I’m carrying around makes it difficult to go a whole lot further that 4 or 5 miles at a time. But – I’m at least moving.

One other thing I learned is that right now I’m not in shape to do anything serious. As a result, I passed on my opportunity to run the Crystal Cove XTERRA 17K on Sunday. Luckily TeaTime was able to take advantage of my absence in the race. All was not lost though – if you ran the race I was the guy behind the table at the first aid station (just past mile 3) filling the water cups. Hope you had a great time running!* I know I did just helping out:

* Note: We had an unseasonably warm weekend here. At our aid station, the temperature was pushing 75F when folks started showing up around 8:45 AM under sunny and breezeless skies. We heard of two cases of heat exhaustion, and while the ranger was driving us back to the start area, we had to stop and assist a hiker who was in heat distress. Glad I was just volunteering!

  1. Heat stroke is just wuch a foreign concept to me right now. Good to hear you are running more consistently.

  2. I was wondering what all the traffic was on Sunday at Crystal Cove. As Kovas said, if running is increasing then I'm stoked.

  5. Running every other day makes sense to me. I only run 3 days per week and then add in 3 days of walking.

  6. I don't know how you keep running these trail races. I am pretty sore today. Probably due to my lack of training lately. It was motivating seeing you at aid station mile 3. I guess it is always good to see a familiar face! Let me know which XTERRA race you are going to use your free entry for, I might join if not too crazy!

Don't feel bad, I have also been a lurker for a few weeks. It has also been a few weeks since I have had a decent run! Good for you for getting back in the groove:)

  9. I need to get up there and do some of your trail races. You make them seem so lovely. And thanks for volunteering when you realized you couldn't run. Most people just sleep in.

Ah Glenn...you and I must have done something to piss off those running gods this year but whatever, we'll show 'em in 2011!! Hang in there, you're getting something done, which is great!

  12. Every-other-day is better than no-day! You need to unlurkify though... :)

A lot of money is tainted. It taint yours and it taint mine.

  15. I remember your tweets from that day - how hot it was!

What does it say about me, that I never seem to run more than 5ish miles lately too? I got to say, it's fine with me, honestly.

Glad you are listening to your body, Glenn.
