I’m starting my fourth week of work and trying to figure out a schedule and routine. By the time I get back into my hotel room (usually 8:30 to 9PM), I am ready to take an hour or so to catch up with things back home, relax in front of my computer for a little and hit the sack to get ready to do it all again the next day.
Also, being away from home four days a week seems to make the three that I am home all that much more valuable. And of the three that I am home, one (Fridays) is spent working anyways. So, what that really means is the last thing I want to do on weekends is spend more time away from my family.
So I guess what I’m saying is that all thoughts of getting into any type of race shape are pretty much going to be on hold for a while. I *am* going to get back in an exercise habit though. Three hours a week. That will probably break down to 30 minutes twice a week on a hotel treadmill and an hour a day on Saturdays and Sundays. And limiting my caloric intake. Heaven knows all that restaurant food that I’m eating isn’t doing me a whole lot of good. Anyone know how many calories in a Fuddrucker’s half pounder? Just kidding!!!!!
All of that makes for a boring blog. Face it – there are tons and tons of excellent blogs out there from people who are serious about training. I won’t pretend to be one of those while I’m up on a treadmill. So, I’m going to be changing up a little. Starting this week, I’ll be in here once a week to talk about the challenges of staying (or in my case-getting back into) in shape while be a road warrior. I’ll be back this weekend!
Haven't been to a Fudruckers in years - I think one of theirs could sustain a human for several months ;-) Good luck on the journey Glenn!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't you run outside? There are beautiful places up there, and some of my favorite running has been in towns that I don't know... Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteGlad that the job is going well. Look forward to your new topic as well.
ReplyDeleteI come to this blog because of the author not because of how many miles the author has ran this week. There will always be ebbing and flowing in all of our training schedules.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter why type of blog yours is, it's always good to hear from you and how things are going. I think it would be so difficult to get in some ideal training when you are hoteling it 4 nights/week ... you do what you can to keep yourself sane and that's all you can do.
ReplyDeletei think my readership grew while i was running on the hampton inn treadmill in KY... lol. we are all here for you, no matter what you blog about :)
ReplyDeleteHardly boring, Glenn.
ReplyDeleteChanges in schedule always throw workout plans off kilter. You'll figure out how to make it work once you get in the rhythm of your new normal. :)
The Fuddrucker's by my place closed and became an IHOP!
ReplyDeleteGlenn, I hope things are going well with your new job, and that you are able to find a great balance with everything, including your running regimen. All the best to you!
You could start a weekly series... photos of hotel treadmills. It could be fabulous! Some of my best blogging fodder came when I was traveling more.
ReplyDeleteI got a taste of your schedule a couple of weeks ago... and it was no good! I did manage to wake up and log a couple of miles on the treadmill, but the room service and meeting room food weren't doing me any favors.

ReplyDeleteYes, but we will all still read your blog. even if just posted the word - Boo!
ReplyDeleteby the way, if your current job is to keep the Kings in Sac City - BOO! thought for a brief moment my beloved Seattle, would have a team again.
I would call your training vs family decisions "balance". That, to me, is admirable.
ReplyDeleteMmm...Fuddruckers'...
ReplyDeleteHey Glen, congrats on the new job! Sounds like a pretty intense schedule. I thought I was you in the back bay tonight but I guess it wasn't you after all. Hope all is well, take care. - deidre
