A Short Long Run

Just when I feel like things are going oh so well, all I needed to do was lengthen my run out a little. The run itself was decent - six miles on the Back Bay. The plan was to go eight miles, but I got out in the late afternoon, and had to get home in time to grill dinner for the family, so I cut a couple miles. Total damage for last week: 23 miles. At least it's better than the two prior weeks!

This week will have a new twist thrown in - running after dark! Guess it's time for my annual running after dark blog.

On the plan this week:

Monday: 5 miles GA
Tuesday: Intervals. Somewhere around 6 miles
Wednesday: 5 miles GA
Thursday: 3 X 1600 at 10K pace w/ 400 active rest. 2 mile warm up and 1 mile warm down for a total of 6.75 miles. If I can't get on the track, I'll turn this to a 5 or 6 mile GA run.
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 3 mile GA
Sunday: Shelter Island 5K. With warm up and warm down should be around 5 miles.
Total: Somewhere around 30 miles.

On another note, I wanted to send out a HUGE congratulations to lindsay who shattered her Marahon PR by six minutes this weekend at the New York Marathon. Way to go lindsay!

  1. Any run being cut short to grill is a good reason. I grill therefore I run.

  3. Ah yes, running after dark...it is that season once again. Couldn't help but notice the official sunset in my area was 4:59 PM today! :)

Keep up the great work, Glenn!

  4. Funny, it's the opposite for me now. After running in the dark in the early a.m., I'm now facing daylight again. You'll get used to it soon enough. Just remember to wear that reflective gear.

  5. I'll be in your "after dark club." Let's see, we can name it the Vampire Club. No, too spooky. Do you have a cool headlamp from REI?
Ok, back to my old UCI days...we used to run the back bay in a pack of 8 or so at about 9:30 or 10 pm 3 times a week. Ah, memories.

  6. Running in the dark. I used to do that in Tokyo but only because I got up so early.

  7. Yes, the paycheck will be nice for race fees and new running supplies!

Glad you got your longer run in and feel free to be a total dork and wear a headlamp like I do. It's dark here in the burbs.

  8. "Mmmmm!" (Imagine me drinking a Dunkin Donuts coffee) That's all I got over here.

Good job on the intervals! I need to get on that if I want to get faster.

  10. i hope your week and planned workouts are going well!! at least you can "slack off" without dwelling on it too much since you have some non-structured running time now. gotta enjoy it while it's here - soon enough we'll be ramping up for another marathon! we need to develop that 3-week training plan asap! ;)

thank you for the shoutout! :)
