Okay. One week post SF Half Marathon. I think I’m ready to start a long journey.
I took last week off. Completely. Decided that after three years it was time for a week with no training at all. Nothing. Nada. I think my body is thanking me, even though it may be a pound or two heavier.
But, it’s time to get back to work. For the next ten or so weeks I’ll be training with my son as we run our way to the Long Beach Half Marathon. For this week:
- Monday: Rest
- Tuesday: On the track. 7X400 at 5K pace. One mile WU and WD. 5.5 total.
- Wednesday: 3 mile easy
- Thursday: 45 minute tempo. Somewhere around 5 miles
- Friday: Rest
- Saturday: 9 miles. Will probably hit the trails.
- Sunday: 3 mile easy
- Total: 25.5 miles.
So tonight – it’s off to the track to drag some tongue….
I love how you book end a week off with a Monday rest day. That's clever.
ReplyDeleteLB and Nike are both 11 weeks out! We can push each other along as we finalize our training. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah for Monday rest days! Happy dragging tongue on the track workout!
ReplyDeleteYou are running the half with your son? Sounds like a lot of fun!! Good luck at the track tonight! I am headed to the track after work too!
ReplyDeleteIt's okay to drag the tongue, just don't trip over it! ;)
ReplyDeleteKeep kicking! See ya at LB.
ReplyDeleteYour body will be thankful for that full week off - I always take a full week and it rebounds better. Looks like a great training week...so jealous you're doing LB. I am out of commission for a long time, I fear.
ReplyDeleteHip Hip hooray! For rest, its like the recharger and once you hit the pavement/trails again your so happy and the "high" is way HIGH!
ReplyDeleteI cant WAIT till the LBM!!! I love that run! I must admit though I am a "bit" nervous:)
After a similarly long running cycle, I did the same thing of taking a week off early June (no running or cardio of any kind besides walking), and I think it was immensely helpful (hard, but helpful).
ReplyDeleteI'm now on a rest week too. But because I was as smart as you and planned it, but because of an owie.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your training plan! Wish I could do the Long Beach Half again this year, but have overspent my running travel budget for the year already.
Looks like a GREAT first week!!! I start training next week for LB and I'm getting antsy :) Have fun training with your son and I'll see you soon in LB!!!
ReplyDeleteI shoulda taken a week off... I only took four days, now my knees and PF is starting to ache...GAH!
ReplyDeleteRE: last post...I see LB and Shelter Island in our future. Maybe I should think about the OC 1/2, but probably not until 2012...

Oh man, I have a full week off scheduled after my next marathon, and I'm soooooooo excited about it. I haven't had "planned" time off for almost 2 years. Runners are dummy heads, no? ;)
