Taper Day 6. Running FAIL.

Life sometimes has a way of conspiring with our wishes and desires to make things happen. Such was my day yesterday. I needed to (well maybe not *needed*, but definitely *should have*) hit the trails for a 6 mile run. But, one thing led to another led to another, and before I knew it, it was late in the day. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned here before, but one of the things I do to keep the peace in the Jones household is cook dinner on the weekends. (It’s not really that bad. I love cooking….)

Long story short – if I would have tackled my run, there would have been no peace Sunday evening. I’m not going to stress about it. As I’ve said before, I’ve been running pretty consistently for a while now. Plus or minus six miles isn’t going to make a whole hill of beans.

I wrapped up last week with 30.25 running miles. Got a hill workout done midweek, and a medium long run on Saturday.

Coming this week:

  • Monday: Rest.
  • Tuesday: 6 miles general aerobic. Stretching afterwards.
  • Wednesday: 30 minute tempo run.
  • Thursday: 6 miles general aerobic. Stretching afterwards
  • Friday: Rest
  • Saturday: 8 miles. Slow and easy.
  • Sunday: 2 miles general aerobic.
  • Total planned miles: 25 miles.

My new pet should have nothing to hide from this week. He’ll be wallowing in the mud….

  1. Sometimes peace is worth giving up 6 miles :). All is fine, you haven't lost anything with the 6. Love your new pet, glad it's there by your side...and muddy and everything!!

  2. I like Tapir - good name as well.

I cook as well. 5 dinners a week usually. My wife does 1 a week, and Jason's Deli, Red Robin, Roberto's Taco Shop, or nearby pizza dive does a night.

Trails? I wish I had more of them here in Vegas to do.

  3. Nice to have those days of peace...especially if it involves some quality time in the kitchen!

You are well trained right now, so you will be just fine. No worries, you will be ready to go come race day!

  4. Hi Glenn,
I think that it is totally okay for you to cut yourself some slack! You are only human and we all have families to keep happy:) You did good! Don't worry about a few miles.

So my blogger friend Glenn can cook....hmmmm! What kind of things do you like to cook?

I hope that you have an excellent week!!

  5. UGH, what is it with your new pet?? What did I miss?? Uh, oh...I just read Slomo's comment. I get it. I guess I'm one of the "slow" kids. Ha, ha. Clever, Glenn.

By the way, it's important to keep the peace.

  6. Some things do have to come before running. What did you make?

  7. I wouldn't call it "Fail." I'd call it keeping peace. ;) Good decision.

  11. Glad you kept the peace in the household! I cook every night. Brian cooks like twice a month or he will do the meat on the grill. Oh and I have been looking into trail races! ill keep you posted! Funny how you can influence someone who is like 3000 miles away!

  12. Agreed, if there is any time to miss a run it is during taper.

  13. mmm hmm! who's using excuses now mr. htfu :-p

jk of course. I am a big fan of unscheduled rest days.... And it's taper. Missing a 6-miler won't destroy your marathon.
