Seven Miles on the Dreadmill

So - just a couple of weeks ago I proudly pointed to a streak that I was proud of - *not* using a hotel treadmill. Well, I guess all good things must come to an end.

I had a dinner appointment with a customer about 3 and a half hours north of home. Since I'm an early to bed early to rise kind of guy, I opted to get a hotel room instead of driving back at 10PM. I still wanted to get my run in, so I hit up MapMyRun and scoped out a trail near the hotel. I got changed, got in the car and drove over to the trail. I was ready to go, fired up the Garmin, and got the dreaded "Batteries are low press enter" warning. For those of you new to the Garmin world, that warning really means "Don't even try using me because I'm about to shut off." Grr!

Since the trail wasn't marked and I had no other watch to keep time, I opted to head back to the hotel. I had my tail between my legs thinking that I wasn't going to run. But - wait a minute! I already had my running clothes and shoes on. The hotel is *brand new* (they are still training the employees). Why not check out the Fitness Center? Well, long story short, I hopped up on a treadmill for a 7 mile run. So - in the last week I've seen two streaks snapped - PR races on Saturday, and hotel treadmills on Tuesday.

But, my run was done. Seven miles at an average pace of 9:39. Average heart rate 78% of max. And you know what? My legs aren't sore this morning!

  1. haha, I was laughing out loud when you spoke out your Garmin + the low batter alert. That same thing happened to me awhile ago and I certainly tried to use it. Not even 1 minute into running, it shut off! I hate that it doesn't have a reserve at all.

Glad that you didn't toss up your workout and went ahead and used the treadmill! Good for you!

  3. Good job on the 7 miler, AND on a treadmill no less. It's easy to give up on a run when that much goes wrong, way to push through and to stick it out on the treadmill for that long. :)

  7. Seven miles on the treadmill is impressive. I've never done more than 6. I have to admit, that sometimes the treadmill is nice for an easy run. It keeps you honest pace wise.

  8. Okay....I am impressed to say the least. I did two miles on the treadmill today- could have done three but my hip was tightening up and it's frustrating not being able to take a second and stretch like when I'm running on a trail or the track. Anyway- for some reason my right toes always hurt when I run on the treadmill. Never when I run on the road- have any idea why that might be? So strange. Good for you sticking with the dreadmill for so long!! Christine

  9. not only did you end your streak but you banked yourself a few months of non-treadmill running with those 7 miles :) too bad you weren't able to explore the area, but glad you still talked yourself into a run.

  10. Nice job on the treadmill! I can't recall the furthest I've gone on a treadmill, but I can safely say it wasn't 7 miles. Way to go!
