Okay okay. Maybe I’m getting a little carried away. I put in a quick and easy 3 miles last night. I concentrated on this week’s proprioceptive cue – navel to spine – engaging the lower abs to stabilize my hips. Short story even shorter – I looked at my Garmin at the turnaround point – 8:43 pace. And I hadn’t even really broken a sweat yet. I took it easy on the way back (and into the wind – doh!) and managed a 9:06 average over the three miles at 75% of max heart rate.
Now for the bad news. It’s Friday. Up on the scale. Total weight 224 (up one pound – gah!). 28.5% body fat (down from 29.2%), which means:
162.4 pounds of pulsing muscle
61.6 pounds sinking the ship
I have GOT TO get more diligent with tracking. Starting today folks. Yup. Starting today…..
that means you're packing on the muscle!
ReplyDeleteGlenn, way to go on your cloud of........whatever it was. Maybe when you weighed yourself whatever it was that you kicked up attached to you and that is what made you gain a pound? Seriously, with my weight loss, one week - up 2, next week - down 1, next week down 2, next week - up 2. And I was really watching it and running a lot. Even the smallest things can make us gain even a pound. thats what prompted me to get a number at the end of each month with an average weekly loss or gain every week instead of beating my self up every week. ReplyDeleteIgnore the small stuff. You are doing so well, keep it up! I can fluctuate from 1-4 lbs sometimes, depending on the time of day. Keep up with your positive attitude!

I agree with Kenley -- your weight can vary so much and it's better to look at the big pic. Numbers on the scale are like a snapshot: The truth for that moment, but oh-so-dependent on way too many variables.
ReplyDeleteI also take my weekly average when weighing, just because of the fluctuations. I also use scale weight to make sure I'm not losing too much water AFTER a run. Since you're not marathon training at the moment, do you have a weight and/or body fat percentage goal in mind? How are you measuring your body fat percentages?
ReplyDeletePer your comment on my blog: When all systems are go, I don't think too much about weight because (under normal circumstances) I run and lift weights. I'm only 5'3" and every pound up or down shows. I lose 5 pounds and I look like death warmed over, but if I gain 5 pounds nothing fits. There is a balance. I've been 30 pounds over weight and know how easy it is for me to go backwards again. Nah, I wouldn't say I'm being hard on myself. I just know how easy it is to slip. Thanks for being supportive!
I have got to get more deligent about tracking, too - thanks for the reminder (darn it. haha). I'm noticing some small changes but not where I should be. And though a pound or two isn't that big of a deal either way, it IS mentally better to see it go in the negative. i have been counting my cals... and even though i am (mostly) staying within my daily amount (with the exception of 1 day this week), i am still not dropping the pounds! grrrr. sure i still eat chocolate but only if/when it fits in the count :( so frustrating. hope your results are better!

ReplyDeleteTrust me - it was not easy to finally make the decision to track calories. It has become part of my daily routine.
Even if you continue to eat "not so healthy food" track everything. At some point your conscience may take over :)
Also, your running will benefit as well.

I'm up on my weight too and it cost me $$ during our weigh-in yesterday. Maybe I need to focus on my -- what did you call it? -- proprioceptive cue too.
